Inverse perspective mapping and optic flow: A calibration method and a quantitative analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
In most imaging devices (including the human eye), the mechanisms that govern the projection of a 3D scene onto a 2D surface render the extraction of useful 3D information difficult. We investigate the effects of perspective on optic flow in a driver assistance application in which a camera is mounted on the wing mirror in order to observe a driver’s so called ‘blind spot’. A car travelling toward the camera appears to increase in speed and size on the projected image although its real speed and size are constant. We show that the inverse perspective mapping, previously used for obstacle detection, can also help in the problem of extracting real world speed from 2D optic flow data. We provide a quantitative analysis that shows precisely to what degree speed uniformity in the 3D world can be recovered by the mapping. To determine some mapping parameters, we devised a calibration method adapted to our specific situation that can be performed on-line and unsupervised. Its simplicity lends itself to fast software or hardware implementation. q 2005 Published by Elsevier B.V.

متن کاملSimultaneous estimation of heat fluxes applied to the wall of a channel with turbulent flow using inverse analysis
The main purpose of this study is to estimate the step heat fluxes applied to the wall of a two-dimensional symmetric channel with turbulent flow. For inverse analysis, conjugate gradient method with adjoint problem is used. In order to calculate the flow field, two equation model is used. In this study, adjoint problem is developed to conduct an inverse analysis of heat transfer in a channel...
متن کاملA Critique on Power Spectrum – Area Fractal Method for Geochemical Anomaly Mapping
Power spectrum – area fractal (S-A fractal) method has been frequently applied for geochemical anomaly mapping. Some researchers have performed this method for separation of geochemical anomaly, background and noise and have delineated their distribution maps. In this research, surface geochemical data of Zafarghand Cu-Mo mineralization area have been utilized and some defects of S-A fractal me...
متن کاملInverse Boundary Design Problem of Combined Radiation-convection Heat Transfer in Laminar Recess Flow
In the present work, an inverse analysis of combined radiation and laminar forced convection heat transfer in a two-dimensional channel with variable cross sections is performed. The conjugate gradient method is used to find the temperature distribution over the heater surface to satisfy the prescribed temperature and heat flux distributions over the design surface. The fluid is considered to b...
